Time to Back our Rural Communities and Protect Critical Infrastructure

The recent devastating wildfire at Morfa Bychan exposed the dangerous consequences of an unchecked enforcement vacuum along our coast. Pendine Community Council has stepped up by formally demanding an Emergency Temporary Traffic Regulation Order to stop unauthorised vehicular access. When local homes, livestock, and critical national infrastructure, including water pumping stations and power lines, are put at risk by reckless anti-social behavior, talking shops are simply no longer acceptable.

Shifting the Financial Burden

What makes this situation even more absurd is that the local community council, operating on a modest precept, is being left to shoulder administrative burdens for an issue affecting regional safety and private land. With uncommitted reserves stretched thin, Carmarthenshire County Council must step forward to promote and fund this order directly in the public interest. Protecting our rural environment and securing public safety is a core duty that should not be short-changed by bureaucratic passing of the buck.

Time for Decisive Action

Reform UK stands firmly behind Pendine Community Council, local residents, and our emergency services. We need common-sense governance that empowers police with enforceable powers immediately, paving the way for long-term experimental or permanent traffic restrictions. I will continue working alongside local stakeholders to ensure our countryside and essential utilities receive the robust protection they deserve.
