Ring-Fence Funding to Restore Pride in our Town Centres

The Plaid Cymru Government has announced a Town Centre Taskforce and £1 million of new funding for town centre regeneration projects in Bangor and Bridgend. But while the Welsh Government announces yet another taskforce, people are still waiting for the basic improvements that would make a visible difference to their communities.

We do not need more committees in Cardiff Bay producing endless reports while our local streets deteriorate.

Reform Wales would ring-fence funding to fix broken benches, damaged paving, unsafe steps and other everyday eyesores quickly and properly, restoring pride in our town centres and making public spaces safer and more accessible.

Doing the basics right restores pride in our town centres and ensures our high streets are practical and welcoming for everyone.

Carmarthen was once a thriving market town, but years of poor strategy have taken a heavy toll:

The Staggering Cost of Debenhams: Millions in public money spent with little to show for long-term vitality.

The Demolition of Wilko: Key footprint areas lost without a coherent, modern strategy to replace them.

We must accept reality: the old high street model has changed. A new generation purchases goods predominantly online; they come to town centres for experiences, good food, family-oriented spaces, and vibrant local culture.

As outlined in the Reform welsh-manifesto-english, our vision cuts through bureaucratic waste to deliver real priority for local communities—focusing on sensible housing solutions, infrastructure fixes, and backing local businesses.

My vision for Carmarthen focuses on what actually works:

Free parking to support local shoppers and independent traders.

Green, family-friendly spaces where communities can gather.

Affordable housing for local people, replacing redundant commercial spaces or repurposing empty floors above existing retail units to bring life back into the town centre.

Talking shops will not clean our streets or rebuild our local economy.

At the upcoming local council elections, vote for practical solutions. Reform councillors will get things done.
