The Welsh Government has just unleashed another mountain of planning bureaucracy on the hardworking people of Wales.
Their recently published guidance for the new Planning Act is a masterclass in top-down control. Instead of making it easier for our young people to get on the housing ladder or helping our farmers modernise their operations, Cardiff Bay is obsessing over restrictive zoning and heavy-handed tree preservation orders. This is exactly what is wrong with the political establishment, they prioritise red tape over real economic growth.
Strangling Carmarthenshire’s Economy
Here in Carmarthenshire, we rely on our agricultural sector and rural businesses to keep our local economy ticking. But these new rules will drag every minor development application into a quagmire of subordinate legislation and environmental tick-box exercises. A farmer looking to build a new shed or a local family wanting to build a home on their own land will now face months of costly delays, entirely out of touch with the reality of rural life. We need sensible, locally-led planning, not a straightjacket designed by civil servants sitting behind desks in Cardiff.
Time To Cut The Bureaucracy
Reform UK stands for common sense and trusting local people. We must strip away this suffocating layer of government interference and redirect funding away from back-office bureaucrats toward the frontline services that actually matter. It is time we made the Welsh Government strictly accountable for the harm they are doing to rural communities. Let’s scrap the unnecessary regulations and empower the people of Carmarthenshire to build, farm, and thrive once again.
