Today, Wednesday 5th August, the Reform Carmarthenshire/Sir Gaerfyrddin team had the immense pleasure of visiting the 2026 National Eisteddfod field at Llantood in neighbouring Pembrokeshire.
The sheer scale and vibrancy of this year’s event was immediately striking. From the moment we arrived on the Maes, the energy was palpable, a fantastic reflection of the dedication and months of hard work that the organisers, volunteers, and local communities have poured into making this year’s festival such a resounding success.
Homes, farms and villages had been busy putting up bunting, pallettes with messages and Welsh flags all along the route to the Eisteddfod.
Carmarthenshire on the Stages and Walkways
During today’s visit, we had the chance to speak with organisations, charities, local stallholders, and people from across the community. For us as the Reform UK Carmarthenshire team walking around the Maes we could see Carmarthenshire being represented everywhere, and it was excellent to see.
There were Carmarthenshire competitors, choirs, performers, and young people taking to the stages throughout the day, and they did our county proud. Seeing that much local talent being celebrated on a national stage is exactly why events like this matter.
One of the many highlights was speaking to members and players from The Scarlets. They carried out a skills session with the children in the Plant Pentref section.
An Essential Showcase for Wales
Strolling along the Maes, there was an abundance of strong representation of Carmarthenshire businesses, food producers, artists, and independent traders. From local agricultural produce to crafts and services, our regional enterprise is showing the very best of what Carmarthenshire has to offer.
Events like the Eisteddfod at Llantood serve as a vital, living showcase. It is far more than just a festival; it remains an essential pillar for promoting Yr Iaith Gymraeg (The Welsh Language). Fostering naturally vibrant spaces where the language flourishes in daily conversation, trade, and art.
The Eisteddfod Honours decades of heritage while giving a platform to contemporary artists, poets, and performers. It provides a national platform for local Welsh business providing to display their high-quality craftsmanship, innovation, and hard work.
